Our "Busy Being Amazing" Story
Busy Being Amazing began with a child, a candle, and a belief that learning could be more than something children complete on paper. It could be something they touch, smell, build, create, and remember.
Founded by Kennisen Smith at the age of nine, Busy Being Amazing started as a homeschool enrichment experience. What began inside our home as a fragrance laboratory soon became something much larger. Through candle-making, Kennisen and our family explored science, literacy, math, product development, responsibility, and the beauty of creating something meaningful with our own hands.
In those early days, candles were more than products. They became lessons in patience, planning, problem-solving, confidence, and care. Each small batch told a story. Each scent carried a memory. Each finished product reminded us that children were capable of more when they are given the space, tools, guidance, and encouragement to grow.

Over time, Busy Being Amazing evolved into a community-rooted youth development nonprofit dedicated to help children learn early, grow confidently, and develop real-world life skills. Today, our mission is youth enrichment through creativity, literacy, and entrepreneurship. We create safe, immersive experiences that help children strengthen academic achievement while also building character, leadership, compassion and ownership.
Our work now includes literacy support, hands-on workshops, candle-making classes, public speaking opportunities, entrepreneurship education, community engagement, and mission-driven products that help fund and activate our programs. Every service is connected by one purpose: to help children see themselves as readers, builders, creators, leaders, problem-solvers, and future business owners.
What makes Busy Being Amazing different is our whole-child approach. We do not simply teach children what to know. We help them experience who they can become. Through creativity, education, mentorship, and community involvement, children learn that their ideas matter, their gifts have value, and their future is worth investing in.
Busy Being Amazing is built on the faith that seeing is believing- education, integrity, compassion, sustainability, and legacy. We believe that lasting change happens when families, businesses, educators, donors, churches, and community leaders work together to create opportunities as early as they can, as young as they can, and as often as they can.
Busy Being Amazing story is still being written, but its heart remains the same: love, learning, creativity and service. From one child’s dream to a growing movement for youth education and entrepreneurship, Busy Being Amazing exists to help children shine their light, build their confidence, and become amazing in ways that bless their families, their communities, and the world.
